The Victoria Theatre Association’s popular Cool Films Series returns for the 2018 season with a summer full of great films. This week’s film is Irma La Douce, starring Shirley MacLaine & Jack Lemmon. Based on the 1956 stage musical, this Academy Award-winning film follows a former policeman who falls in love with a charming prostitute with a heart of gold. Filled with comedy, romance, and a surprise ending, this film features music from Andre Previn. Not rated. Enjoy free popcorn and soda in the lobby and a free cartoon prior to each show. Egg Tempera Workshop

Learn the art of egg tempera painting with artist James Polewchak. In this one day workshop, you will learn the ancient technique of creating your own paint with egg yolks, water and dry pigment. Polewchak will demonstrate and teach attendees how to create their own egg tempera painting on a provided handmade gesso board. It is suggested that artists bring their own brushes, watercolor brushes are best if available. The DSA has brushes for those who do not. $50.

July 24 - Downtown Dayton River Kayaking Trips
Mad River Trail, 2299 E. Monument Ave.;
5:30-8:30 p.m.
Kayak down the Mad River and the Great Miami River through the two whitewater features of the RiverScape River Run. This trip is led by Five Rivers MetroParks staff. There is a chance you could tip over while kayaking and we will be getting wet so please dress appropriately including wearing water shoes, or old sneakers. This trip will include paddling through Class II-III whitewater rapids and will require you to actively paddle much of the time. Weather dependent. Ages 14 and up. $30.
