In the wake of recent tragedy in Dayton’s Oregon District, several community partners have come together to present Gem City Shine, an Oregon District Benefit Concert and Community Event, hosted by Dave Chappelle. This event will honor the lives lost and reclaim the community’s favorite places to shop, dine and enjoy time with family and friends. Local and national entertainment will be featured on a main stage located near Fifth Street and Wayne Avenue, with performances throughout the late afternoon and evening. This event is free, but a ticket is required for admission. Tickets are restricted to residents of Dayton and the surrounding areas. Patrons must register via Verified Fan on Ticketmaster. August 24 - AleFest

AleFest Dayton is Ohio’s longest running craft beer festival. A true Celebration of Craft Beer! General admission ($45 in advance) allows attendees to sample from a carefully selected assortment of over 200 of Ohio’s (and the world’s) finest malted and hopped beverages. Local food purveyors will tempt your taste buds as well, The Fries band will entertain, and everyone will go home happy! VIP tickets ($60 in advance) are also available, providing entry one hour earlier (3pm entry), providing early access to some of the more sought after beers. Presented by the Downtown Dayton Partnership and Montgomery County, The Square Is Where features free live noontime entertainment in the heart of downtown on Courthouse Square. The 10th annual Dayton Beer Week continues its celebration of craft beer in Dayton! Several establishments throughout Dayton will host special events throughout Beer Week, including many downtown. Dayton Beer Week is a beer lover's dream and holiday rolled into one! All these events lead up to AleFest at the Dayton Convention Center on Aug. 24. Fifth/Third Center is presenting abstract paintings by Yellow Springs artist Christine Klinger in their Lobby Gallery; additional artwork can be seen on the second floor, Christine’s style is intuitive and expressionistic and her themes deal with issues of the natural world and, specifically, water and our vital connection with it. AAVAG’s Exposition Through Art - Historic African American Churches of Southwest Ohio Art Exhibit will be available at Dayton Main Library, 2nd Floor Art Gallery. The 26 churches honored in the exhibit were chosen for their 75-plus years in existence ministering to their congregations, serving the communities in which they reside, and being civil rights advocates in their cities. 17 AAVAG member artists and invited artists, creating in a wide variety of medium, contributed their creative talents to celebrate the accomplishments and longevity of these churches. 463-2665.

K12 is pleased to present the exhibition and introduction to the developmental formula from master artist, Scott Gibbs. Scott Gibbs: Insights is the culmination that brings together over 400 works- spanning the start of his creative practice in the early 1980s to the present. Flanagan’s Pub & Toxic Brew Company have been planning a beer team up and release party for awhile. In light of the senseless violence that erupted in our town in the early morning hours of Aug 4, we want to turn it into an opportunity to get some of your hard earned beer budget to the people who really need it. Flanagan’s and Toxic will donate $1 for every pint of the new collab beer sold during the launch party, and Toxic will match it, and the money will go to The Dayton Foundation’s Oregon District Victims Fund.

These fun walks feature a different downtown route each week, taking you past a variety of landmarks and parts of our city while introducing you to other downtown workers who like to walk.
