The Contemporary Dayton Announces Opening in The Arcade

Mike Colvin Fast Facts

The Contemporary Dayton, also known as The Co, will open inside of its new location at the Dayton Arcade on April 30. The new space, a 6,224-square-foot art center on the ground floor of the complex on Fourth Street, includes five galleries for showcasing local artists, special exhibitions, video and film, and space for retail. The Co – originally formed in 1991 as the Dayton Visual Arts Center and rebranded to The Co in 2019 – will be part of the Arcade’s 9-building complex that also will feature Crafted and Cured bar and restaurant, retail neighbors as well as the University of Dayton’s entrepreneurial space, The Hub. The Dayton Arcade provided The Co space to expand, more foot traffic and an opportunity to leverage relationships with the University of Dayton, Sinclair Community College and the city of Dayton, The Co’s Executive Director Eva Buttacavoli told the Dayton Daily News. The new Co space will be within steps of the iconic and historical glass-domed Rotunda, and serves as a statement to the future while honoring the past, Buttacavoli added. The Co has announced its inaugural exhibition in the new space, find more details on the art featured and information on its capital campaign fundraising on The Co’s website.
