Rediscover Business Spotlight: The Flying Pizza

Mike Colvin Downtown Event

Tell us a bit about yourself and your business. What made you decide to open your own small business and how long have you been in operation?

I’m Frank Graci from The Flying Pizza on Main Street in downtown Dayton. We’ve been in the same location selling our New York style pizza for fifty years. Our father, John Gracy, moved here from New York and started the business in 1971. I’ve been working here since I was 8 years old. The family stories  people share when they visit  keep us  going.

What do you enjoy about working in downtown Dayton?

We appreciate all of our loyal customers that continue to support us. We have customers who eat here six days a week. We have three and four generations of customers coming into our downtown location.  People make it a destination point.  When you think you’ve seen it all, you see something else and it adds character to the experience.

Tell us something about your business that may surprise people to learn.

It’s more than just selling pizza — it’s personal to us.

Also, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary on Friday, October 1st this year. We are giving away 16 TVs. 13 45-inch, 2 65-inch, and 1 85-inch. We are randomly putting 50 year stickers on bags and then you are placed in the drawing.  The TVs will be given away on the first in addition to sweatshirts, t-shirts and other items.

How is your business coping with the pandemic and how can people support you now?

The best way to support us is to come down, buy more pizza, and buy more gift certificates! We’ll be here another fifty years with our loyal customers’ support.
