December 6 - First Friday Holiday Edition
Various locations throughout downtown Dayton; 5-10 p.m.
Downtown Dayton restaurants, retail shops, attractions and other local businesses will kick the season into high gear during the Dec. 6 First Friday, and the Downtown Dayton Partnership is providing entertainment for shoppers, diners, employees, residents and visitors that is sure to put everyone in the holiday spirit. Many businesses and restaurants will offer specials and other incentives for First Friday shoppers. Downtown businesses will compete for prizes in the Whimsical Windows display contest, and roving entertainers will delight all who stroll the sidewalks downtown. This annual contest shows off the creativity of downtown Dayton's collection of small businesses as they decorate their storefront windows for the holidays in their own unique ways. Welcome to Los Angeles, California, where the weather is always nice and the future looks bright - mostly. We visit the trendy Silver Lake hills of L.A. on a warm November evening, on the Day of the Dead. Calder is a promising writer-director, and his wife Abigail is an actor still waiting for her big break. An old school buddy of Calder’s visits, as does his agent, and Abigail’s friend Molly - who stops over to read Tarot cards. This annual show transforms the downtown gallery into an all-art, all-original, all-local, fine art and fine craft gift gallery where guests can shop their gift list from hundreds of unique items created by Miami Valley artists. Prices vary and there are items available for every budget. Gallery design by Chris "Red" Newman, DayTony-award-winning set designer. Also each Thursday in December during the Holiday Gift Gallery, we'll be offering "Pop-Up Yummies & Celebrity "Wrap" Nights, local restaurants and celebrities will come to the gallery offering delicious culinary treats for you to indulge in while you shop the Holiday Gift Gallery.

Come see one of the area's longest-running holiday traditions - the magical Rike's department store holiday window displays! Experience the wonder of the animated elves, woodland animals, violinists, and skaters right at the corner of Second and Main streets in downtown Dayton, where these displays delighted people beginning more than 70 years ago. Ride the Festive Flyer &
RTA Holiday Bus

Bus routes, including Downtown Dayton routes and stops.
This year the RTA is debuting two “Festive Flyer” buses in constant circulation on the downtown route. The two buses are decorated with snowflakes on the outside and include holiday decorations on the inside. Also included is a custom “selfie photo booth,” where riders can take pictures and share their experience. Also, watch for the special RTA Holiday Bus this season, featuring a gingerbread design, festive decorations, and free candy canes for riders! The bus changes routes daily - a schedule can be found at iriderta.org.

Holiday Train Display

Visitors of all ages can view this beloved, one-of-a-kind model train display that was given to the community by Mrs. Virginia Kettering. The display can also be viewed through the building windows anytime.

Sheltered under the covered pavilion, the MetroParks Ice Rink sets the scene as a perfect winter wonderland in downtown Dayton. Patrons may skate daily, including all holidays. While the rink is open, you can enjoy delicious treats from the concession area, including a cup of hot chocolate. Within The Contemporary Dayton’s annual Holiday Gift Gallery, there will be a Pop-up Arepa Shop by Latin Arepas/Bar Granada and Celebrity Gift Wrapper DJ Basim Blunt of WYSO 91.3 FM. This event is free and open to all.

Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School, 505 S. Ludlow St.; 7 p.m.
Sounds of the Season will feature sacred and secular songs performed by the CJ concert choir, concert band, liturgical choir, percussion ensemble, string ensemble and a cappella groups. Free. 461.3740.
