Exhibit: Matter and Pattern

The Contemporary Dayton,

Three women artists: Michelle BonDurant (Dayton), Britny Wainwright (Columbus) and Sonya Berg (Menges, Austin, TX) create colorful and rhythmic assemblages using materials such as found photographs, tape, ceramic and vinyl to explore the boundaries of pattern and surface. February 29 - Dayton History Fight Night 2020
Memorial Hall; 125 E. First St.;

Historic Memorial Hall will once again host Dayton History Fight Night, a 1920s-themed amateur boxing exhibition that benefits Dayton History in its mission to inspire generations by connecting them with the unique people, places, and events that changed Dayton and the world. Arrive early to hear Dave Greer's Classic Jazz Stompers kick things off with their tremendous blend of jazz, blues, and small band swing music. March 15 - The Big Hoopla Family Festival

The Oregon District Business Association and the Big Hoopla are proud to invite you and your family to share the excitement as we tip off the coming basketball tournament season! Bring the entire family to enjoy activities and special events throughout the day, including brunch in the Oregon District's various restaurants; a tented viewing area to help fans keep up with the sports news of the day and watch their favorite games; an award ceremony to announce the winners from the Hoopla Four Miler road race and the Hoopla STEM Challenge; food and beverage specials along Fifth Street and in the tented viewing area; family activities along Fifth Street, and much more! Thru February 29 - Exhibit: Atlas of Dayton: A City in Progress
Dayton Metro Library - Main Library,

This travelling exhibit about equity, opportunity, and resource access is presented in partnership with MVRPC and sponsored by UD’s College of Arts & Sciences. Interactive digital maps explore issues around income inequality, racial segregation, and access to resources in Dayton. Exhibit is free and open to the public during regular Library hours. 463-BOOK.

Ice Skating

Riverscape MetroPark,

Sheltered under the covered pavilion, the MetroParks Ice Rink sets the scene as a perfect winter wonderland in downtown Dayton. Patrons may skate daily, including all holidays. While the rink is open, you can enjoy delicious treats from the concession area, including a cup of hot chocolate. Take advantage of fun skating activities, such as lessons, themed skating nights and more. Visit metroparks.org/ice-rink to learn more, find daily open hours, and see a schedule of events. This Week at the DAI

The DAI presentes it's latest special exhibit, Samurai, Ghosts and Lovers. Sunday, March 1, is the next edition of Draw from the Collection, and Thursday, March 5 is the next PNC Tiny Thursday. Museum general admission is $15 for adults; $10 for seniors (60+), active military, and groups (10 or more); $5 for college students (18+ with ID) & youth (ages 7-17); free for children (ages 6 & younger) and museum members. February 29 - CatVideoFest

CatVideoFest is a compilation reel of the latest and best cat videos culled from countless hours of unique submissions and sourced animations, music videos, and, of course, classic internet powerhouses. CatVideoFest is a joyous communal experience, only available in theaters, and raises money for cats in need through partnerships with local cat charities, animal welfare organizations, and shelters to best serve cats in the area. This is a family-friendly event, and 10% of each ticket goes to Humane Society of Greater Dayton! Tickets are $8 each and available now in person at The Neon or its website.

Join artists from the Urban Sketch Group, including Terry Welker, and Michele BonDurant as they set up their easels and sketch books. All levels of artist, from the novice to professional are invited to draw and paint from above the city working en plein air in a paint-out style event and followed by an No Fear Feedback artist critique. $10 for artist participation and open to all. All artists, architects and creative map-makers are invited to join us to paint and draw the city below from the 29th story of the Stratacache Tower (formerly the Kettering Tower). The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati (TCT) brings its touring production of “Harriet Tubman: Straight Up Outta The Underground to the Dayton Metro Library for a free, one-time-only performance. The powerful, one-woman performance is best enjoyed by children in grades 3-8, teens and adults. It is free and open to the public in the Bassani Theater of the Main Library.

Scholastic Art Awards

K12 Gallery for Young People & TEJAS, 341 S. Jefferson St.; 6-9:30 p.m.
The Scholastic Art Awards is a 97 year old national art competition that lets students compete with others in their region and then with other students nationally. The program fosters creativity and provides a platform for young people to gain recognition and compete for scholarship funds. All students in grades 7-12 are eligible. K12 Gallery & TEJAS is the Regional Affiliate for the Greater Miami Valley Area.

 

 

February 29 - "A Night Out" Starring Will Downing & Pieces of a Dream

With a career that spans over 30 years and 21 albums, Will Downing is one of the most versatile and loved voices of our time.  Known as The Prince of Sophisticated Soul, his repertoire consists of signature interpretations of R&B classics. Pieces of a Dream emerged out of Philadelphia’s music scene in 1976. Playwrighting Workshop and Producer Q&A

Ohio Playwrights Circle is teaming up with the Dramatist Guild of America for a FREE Playwrighting Workshop and Producer Q&A. From 4-4:50 pm Jeremy Llorence, Otterbein University’s playwriting professor, will share personal stories of his creative approaches in adaptation, revision, and the rehearsal process, while providing some of his tools and exercises for taking that next big creative step. From 5-5:50 pm, join Beth Wood, Associate Artistic Director of Cleveland Public Theatre, as she answers your questions and shares her impressions and reflections on over a decade producing new work. Les Hunter, Ohio Regional Representative of the Dramatists Guild of America, will moderate this session.
