A local chef well-known for his downtown pop-up events has started work on his own restaurant downtown. Chef Dane Shipp plans to open Culture by Chef Dane at 416 E. Fifth Street in the coming months. Shipp says he plans to hold his regular single-item pop-up events at the new location’s patio and walk-up window before transitioning to a full menu later this year. The 416 E. Fifth St. building is owned by Danielle Edwards, owner of Sweet P’s Ice Pops. Edwards tells the Dayton Business Journal that she originally planned to use the space for her business, but started working with Shipp after deciding the space would not be enough to house the continuously-growing Sweet P’s brand. Edwards says Shipp plans to sell Sweet P’s Ice Pops in his restaurant once it’s open.
