The Downtown Dayton Partnership and Sinclair Community College co-hosted a workshop for owner/operators of hotels and restaurants, focusing on connecting businesses to local educational and social programs that train individuals for jobs in the hospitality industry. Dayton Cooks!
Dayton Cooks! is a free, 10-week program in which students learn food safety and sanitation, knife skills, and classic cooking training; gain experience in a commercial kitchen; create their own menus; and prepare for their ServSafe certification. This program is offered through Wesley Community Center and Grace United Methodist Church.

Returning Citizens in the Workforce

This workshop explores some of the benefits to hiring returning citizens such as the ability to earn 25%-40% of an employee’s first-year wages in tax credits for your business, plus protection from negligent hiring lawsuits.

Miami Valley Career Technology Center Culinary Arts
The MVCTC introduces high school juniors and seniors to careers in culinary arts with students operating an on-site restaurant with an ever-changing, full-service menu. Students gain knowledge of food preparation, nutrition, terminology, knife skills, safety and sanitation, menu planning, food purchasing, inventory control, and have the opportunity to earn industry credentials.

Ponitz Career Technology Center
David H. Ponitz Career Technology Center students have the opportunity to earn college credit from Sinclair College, including an associate’s degree and a $3,000 scholarship. The Culinary Arts Pathway has its own professional kitchen and a classroom learning environment where students plan and cook menus. Students create professional foods, cakes, and pastries with an artistic presentation.
