Mike Colvin DDP Press Releases

14 designs by local artists have been selected to make downtown streets more vibrant.
August 3, 2022 (DAYTON, Ohio) – The first winning designs of the ArtWraps project will be unveiled at Art in the City, happening 1 to 7 p.m. this Saturday, August 6. Fourteen winning designs have been turned into vinyl wraps that will cover utility boxes and brighten streets throughout downtown.
“There was such a tremendous response to the first phase of the ArtWraps program,” said Sandra K. Gudorf, President of the Downtown Dayton Partnership. “So many creative artists of all ages in our community are eager to help with this project that will enliven and brighten our streets, and these winning designs emphasize the creativity and innovation that Dayton is known for.”
The ArtWraps project is focused on beautifying downtown streetscapes with the help of local artists. The first phase of the project is installing vinyl wraps designed by Dayton-area artists of all ages onto utility boxes. The goal of ArtWraps is to turn everyday objects, such as utility boxes, into bold, colorful, surprise works of art. Future phases of the ArtWraps project are planned to begin in 2023.
Dozens of artists submitted more than 100 designs to be considered for the first phase of the project. A selection committee narrowed that down to 14 designs to be professionally printed and installed by Digital Fringe onto downtown utility boxes. A fifteenth design was installed as a sample for the ArtWraps project. Artists of winning designs will each receive a $500 prize for their work. Installation is underway now and winning designs from the first phase of the program will be unveiled during Art in the City on Saturday, August 6. A special section of the Art in the City event map will highlight ArtWraps locations for guests to visit during the event and year-round.
Below are the first set of selected artists and designs. A map showing the locations of winning designs can be found on the ArtWraps webpage.
