The Dayton Metro Library has teamed up with the Gem City Selfie Museum to deliver multiple unique and imaginative programs through the month of February in honor of Black History Month.
The Gem City Selfie Museum Black History Exhibit Reveal is the first event to kick off a series of Black History Month programs. This reveal introduces the Gem City Selfie Museum’s creative, informative, and interactive experience through the exploration of the interactions of color and mental wellness. The event will be held at the Main Library in the Opportunity Space @ St. Clair, Tuesday, February 1, from 6:30 – 8 pm.
“Everything we do is rooted in community and wellness,” Gem City Selfie Museum founder NaAsiaha Simon explains. “Our goal is to enlighten and lighten the emotional burdens of all patrons of all ages through selfies and self-discovery. Visitors can expect to see themselves and have their feelings represented in our art and throughout the creative space.”
The Gem City Selfie Museum partnered with Byron Smith of Smith & Son 937 and Taliaferro Sebastian of Art has No Rules! to create themed selfie walls such as an R&B and Soul records wall. Library patrons will be able to experience the exhibit throughout February.
Additional Gem City Selfie Museum-sponsored programs include:
Guest speakers help kids, teens, and adults build self-esteem and reading confidence one book at a time.
