Held in late July, Old Case Files takes place at Dayton’s Old Court House—one of the nation’s finest examples of Greek-Revival architecture. Eight U.S. Presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, have delivered speeches at this storied building. Guests witness an early 20th century Dayton murder trial reenactment while Dayton History staff and volunteers set the stage for this interactive courtroom drama.
The Old Court House’s elegant 1850 courtroom comes to life at Old Case Files. Audience members hear testimonies from witnesses, arguments from the prosecution and defense, converse with costumed spectators, study period newspapers, and view historical exhibits to uncover the events surrounding the trial. Twelve fortunate spectators are selected as jurors to determine the fate of the accused.
