As we begin to safely resume gathering and rediscovering all the great things downtown has to offer, we’re especially excited to get back to all the fun events we’ve missed so much!
There’s always something fun going on downtown! Below you’ll find a list of events scheduled for today. Use the filters at the top to find events by date, keyword, and more. You can also view the calendar by month or as a list of 20 events at a time.

Introducing…Mike Ousley and Egg Tempera
Saturday, April 17, 10am
Virtually join the DSA for an egg tempera workshop over Zoom! Meet instructor, Mike Ousley and learn about his artistic practice. Follow along and use the kit included in registration to create your own egg tempera painting.
Registrants will pick up their kits from the High Street Gallery (48 High Street, Dayton) 12pm-5pm: Friday, April 9 or Saturday April 10, 2021
Registration is limited. Registration is only $5 thanks to an MCACD Special Projects Grant! (If the $5 is cost prohibitive, e-mail director@daytondsa.org or call 937-228-4532 for free registration!)
Accordion Book Kit Includes
- 11×14 Watercolor paper
- Tube Watercolors
- Size 8 Round Brush

Mike Ousley
Mike Ousley is a native of Southeastern Kentucky and grew up in Floyd County. The experience of a life in the mountains has shaped the attitudes that inform his painting practice. I grew up in the small and very isolated Mudlick Branch Hollow, in Hippo, Kentucky. I played in the woods, creeks, and up and down the roads in this holler and that one. I was alway’s surrounded by unique stories and character’s from a very young age and I credit those folks for a great deal of inspiration.
As a student I remember walking past the Kentucky Folk Art Center everyday. I became mesmerized by the paintings of Charley Kinney, Hugo Sperger and Tim Sizemore. I also became influenced by a very thriving Appalachian Art’s community in Morehead. I found inspiration through storytellers, old-time Fiddler’s, wood carver’s and others. My approach to painting has remained rooted in my local folk culture and folklore.
Introducing…
The purpose of the workshop series, Introducing…, is to acquaint DSA members and the community to different mediums and methods in the visual arts. In conjunction, the attendees will get to know the instructing artist, their background, and tips and tricks of their trade.
