The Victoria Theatre Association’s popular Cool Films Series returns for the 2019 season with a summer full of great films. This week’s film is The Hudsucker Proxy.
Special guest Coen Brothers’ storyboard artist and Dayton native JTodd Anderson gives perspective and backstory on this lesser known Coen Brothers’ film. Combining gothic sets, Capra-esque drama, and Tim Robbins’ head-in-the-sky performance, this is a theatrical fairytale of the American dream. Cowritten with Sam Raimi, HUDSUCKER feels like a challenge: just how much imagination and ridiculousness can the Coens stuff into one coherent movie?
Featuring Mother Stewart’s Brewing Company’s Witbier and Disco Dancer IPA at the lobby bars!
Part of the Filmically Perfect Weekend featuring THE HUDSUCKER PROXY and A FACE IN THE CROWD! Welcome, JTodd Anderson and George Willeman, hosts of the distinctive radio show and podcast “Filmically Perfect” (formerly live on WYSO, with archive episodes available on iTunes and SoundCloud), live and in person at the Victoria Theatre! Anderson (filmmaker, storyboard artist, and bon-vivant) and Willeman (film archivist, writer, producer, and actor-of-sorts) came up with their “Rules for the Perfect Movie” and will give their perspective on two great films.
