Rediscover the visual and performing arts experience in downtown Dayton at the AES Ohio Summer in the City Art in the City event on Saturday, August 6, from 1 to 7 p.m.!
Celebrating its sixth year, Art in the City’s full day of offerings will include a variety of Dayton’s best artistic talent – from painting and drawing to spoken word poetry and dance – all together filling the streets of downtown Dayton and multiple stages with:
– Live performances (dance, theater, music & more)
– Live demonstrations (painting, sculpting, and other art-making)
– Hands-on & interactive activities (see some highlights listed below!)
– Arts Central on Main
– Interactive classes
– Guided tours of downtown art and architecture

Create your own artwork with K12 Gallery & TEJAS, and take it with you!
Contribute to a quilt project from the Dayton Sewing Collaborative
Make fun collages with the African American Visual Arts Guild
Demos and workshop led by Yufeng Wang
Actors from the Human Race Theatre incorporate suggestions into their performances
Activities for all ages including a bubble zone, face painting, hula hoop classes, music, an appearance by Cosmo from the Dayton Metro Library, an interactive cube art activity with the Dayton Art Institute, and more

Join Alex Jackson from Dayton Architecture, Tom Gilliam from @daytongram, and Andrew Walsh from Dayton Vistas for a 30-45 minute walking tour of downtown architecture during Art in the City. The tour will begin outside the Victoria Theatre and end in the Fire Blocks District… at a former underground speakeasy!

From colorful murals to sculptures, art wrapped utility boxes, painted sewer grates, and more, downtown Dayton is full of public art! Join us for a 30-45 minute walking tour of some of the highlights, including downtown murals and other public art, during Art in the City. The tour will begin near Fifth and Wayne in the Oregon District and end at the Dayton Metro Library.

Stages across the footprint of the event are scheduled with musical acts, spoken word artists, and dancers throughout the day. Performing, visual and musical artists will also be lining the streets, creating a path of activities as visitors travel from one end of the event to the other.

Starting on August 5, you can VOTE for your favorite piece of artwork submitted by local artists. These pieces will be displayed at businesses throughout downtown Dayton, as part of the AES Ohio Summer in the City – Art in the City event. Voting is open until noon on Friday, Aug. 20 via Dayton.com.
Art in the City is a program of the Downtown Dayton Partnership, and the Juried Art Show was organized by the Dayton Society of Artists.
