St Anne’s Hill Historic District is once again excited to host A Dickens of a Christmas: Holiday Home Tour on December 9-11. Postponed from 2021, this long-running biennial holiday walking tour features guides in period costume who share the remarkable history of the Victorian-style homes, historic neighborhood, and our larger city.
“We had a lot of fun with last year’s outdoor luminary walk for Holiday on the Hill,” Susan Gray, Holiday Home Tour board president said. “But I know we’ve all been looking forward to – and working hard at – welcoming folks back into our homes for the traditional Dickens tour that so many of us know and love.”
New for 2022, tours conclude at the WinterGarden – a Bavarian chalet-themed outdoor wonderland with a fire pit and heaters, sweet and savory treats, and conversation with neighbors.
“With the Bossler Mansion under construction we knew we had to still create that amazing feeling of the holidays to send our guests home with,” Gray said. “Our neighbors really came together and I’m so excited for people to experience the WinterGarden.”
To allow for more guest interaction, and greater spacing and safety inside the homes, tour group sizes have been reduced from year’s past.
“With fewer spots, we may sell out earlier this year,” Gray said. “I definitely recommend making your plans in advance.”
With or without tickets, guests can enjoy the Holiday Gift Shoppe at 1500 E. Fifth Street, featuring unique gift items handmade by residents and friends of St. Anne’s Hill. The neighboring Dayton-Liederkranz Turner Club at 1400 E. Fifth Street will also be hosting their annual Christkindlmarkt that weekend.
For those interested in attending the Dickens of a Christmas Holiday Home Tour, the event costs $25 in advance starting November 1 or $30 at the event (if available). Tours take approximately two and a half hours to complete and start every half hour on Friday, December 9 from 3-8pm, Saturday, December 10 from 11am-7pm, and Sunday, December 11 from 12-5pm.
