Adults, teens and families are encouraged to explore and create at the Dayton Metro Library’s 3D Printing Maker Day, Saturday, Dec. 14, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the Main Library Eichelberger Forum, 215 E. Third Street. The event is free.
Five printers will be in action, demonstrating a wide variety of real-world applications for 3D printing, including tools, engineering, prosthetics, household and practical uses. In addition to the Prusa i3 MK3 printers, there will be Makey Makey kits, Extraordinaires Design Studio, Stawbees and Snap Circuits, among other hands-on tools.
“3D printing is only one aspect of the Maker Movement,” said Julie Buchanan, Programming Manager for the Library. “Maker Day also gives people the opportunity to explore electronics, creative research and design, engineering and architecture, and robotics. There will be a lot going on. People can try their hand at all kinds of creativity.”
Participants can print their own 3D designs on a first-come, first-served basis. Files must be .stl format and take less than an hour to complete.
After Maker Day, the 3D printers go to five Branch Libraries: Brookville, Electra C Doren, Southeast, Vandalia, and Wilmington-Stroop, with free classes and demonstrations taking place at each of them, January through April.
