February 23-June 2 - Exhibit: For America: Paintings from the National Academy of Design
Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park North; call for times.
The Dayton Art Institute will be the debut venue for this major traveling exhibition of 100 paintings by 78 artists, featuring masterworks by (and portraits of) many prominent members of the National Academy of Design. Included are works by some of the most recognizable names in American art. Admission is free for museum members; $14 for adults; $11 for seniors, students, active military and groups; $6 for youth; and free for children 6 and under. 223-5277.

   

February 24 - The Neon's Annual Oscar Watch Party

Dayton Metro Library showcases the diverse field of Engineering during the month of February. Free hands-on activities, virtual reality, and popular films will encourage teens, tweens, children and parents to explore what careers in Engineering are all about. All activities are free and take place in the Main Library’s Opportunity Space unless otherwise noted. Drop in anytime February 1-25 for the K'nex Bridge Construction. February 11-25, teens can drop in anytime for Building with LEGO. Friday, February 22, teens explore innovative concepts at the Wearable Tech Workshop. Ice Skating

Sheltered under the covered pavilion, the MetroParks Ice Rink sets the scene as a perfect winter wonderland in downtown Dayton. Patrons may skate daily, including all holidays. While the rink is open, you can enjoy delicious treats from the concession area, including a cup of hot chocolate. Thru March 23 - Exhibit: Journeys: The Work of Willis “Bing” Davis & Tess Little

This special art exhibit features the creative and artistic work of two Dayton-based artist-educators and long-time friends, whose common Appalachian background and love of teaching helped to forge a 25-year community project called R.E.A.C.H. - Realizing Ethnic Awareness and Cultural Heritage across Dayton. 228-8414.

Women Strong

Women Strong is a multi-media exhibit that celebrates the lives and work of women artists in the Dayton region. The idea driving the project was to bring women of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds together as a team to show and share their work. The exhibit is free and open to the public. This year’s exhibit features the work of African-American visual artists from the Miami Valley. The 26th Annual R.E.A.C.H Across Dayton Conference kicks off with the opening presentation “Art in Real Life: In the Spirit of Re-Discovery,” which includes critical conversations on creativity and community.
