RiverScape River Run: Get Out & Get In!
After a successful community fundraising effort and completing permitting, construction of RiverScape River Run is now underway. The in-river recreation improvement project will increase accessibility to the river and add vibrancy to the downtown area. Construction was kicked off on July 8, 2015, and the project is expected to take one year of in-river construction work to complete.

RiverScape River Run is a critical project for our community and will make our downtown riverfront more accessible for the entire community. After the low dam is removed, a seven-mile paddling stretch will be opened up from Eastwood MetroPark to Carillon Park. In place of the dam, two smaller drops will be installed. These peninsulas will span the river and be notched with two openings where water will pass -- an easy pass-through for novice paddlers and a more challenging route for skilled paddlers.
This river configuration will create a long list of benefits for downtown Dayton and the region, including:
- A safer river
- Improved water quality and aquatic habitat
- A place where everyone can connect with the river
- A destination for free, active outdoor recreation
- A dynamic downtown scene for residents, businesses and visitors
- A regional recreation destination
An accompanying project, the River Run mural, will complement River Run and add beauty to the floodwall and downtown. More information on that project can be found here.
RiverScape River Run fundraising efforts are completed. We are so appreciative of everyone who contributed to this campaign. The Dayton community stepped up to raise the entire $4 million – thank you!
